Batman vs Ironman
Alrighty. So I read tonight that Robert Downey Jr. is dissing the Batman movie. He said, and I quote:
“My whole thing is that I saw ‘The Dark Knight’. I feel like I’m dumb because I feel like I don’t get how many things that are so smart. It’s like a Ferrari engine of storytelling and script writing and I’m like, ‘That’s not my idea of what I want to see in a movie.’ I loved ’the Prestige’ but didn’t understand ‘The Dark Knight’. Didn’t get it, still can’t tell you what happened in the movie, what happened to the character and in the end they need him to be a bad guy. I’m like, ‘I get it. This is so high brow and so [expletive] smart, I clearly need a college education to understand this movie.’
Now, I haven’t posted my review of either the Batman or Ironman movie but let me just say, he’s absoluetly right on the point of having intelligence. On the quick front: I found Ironman okay. Everyone I know, loved it. LOVED IT. So perhaps I went in with a high expectation. Now, truthfully, never liked Ironman comics. Man in a tin can. I don’t get it. The movie is predictable and the conflict easily solved with a rock ‘em sock ‘em ending. Again, it was ok. Nothing that hasn’t been done before, nothing truly story telling and no thinking required. The action flick you go see because, well, nothing else is out. Ya know, while you wait for Freakin’ Batman to come out!!
Yeah, I loved Batman. There were flaws (I’m highly critical when it comes to doing Batman right) but overall, it stayed dark. It stuck to the story and you had to pay attention. The acting by all, was brillant. I thought so anyway. And it did require some intelligence to follow along but it wasn’t so difficult that most people couldn’t do it. However, I do believe that’s why I did like it more - it had thought put into the script and twists and character development that you had to pay attention too in order to stick with the story.
What’s probably more dumbfounding is that Robert Downey Jr. couldn’t follow along to a Batman movie!
